cities are mental conditions

“This city is not about other people or buildings or streets but about your mental structure. If we remember what Kafka writes about his Castle, we get a sense of it. Cities really are mental conditions.

the city that Ai WeiWei writes about is Beijing.

“[it] is a nightmare. A constant nightmare”, 

he closes his thought.

and we all know his reasons for these strong words.

me, i am more drawn to “mental condition” phrase.  it echoes my recent note, where i was arguing for a shift of perspective on Bucharest. as a week-long experiment, to start with.
