Design Around The World
>.< WORLD DESIGN CAPITAL
After Turin, Seoul and Helsinki the baton will go to a surprise choice and Cape Town will be the world’s next capital of design in 2014. The title has been awarded to the “tip of the world” after an interesting showdown between Dublin – Bilbao – Cape Town.
Dublin: had it’s showcase centered around “pivot” a very thought provoking highly conceptual approach…at times a bit to conceptual for my taste > http://www.pivotdublin.com/index.php/about/who
Bilbao: To my radar the bleep from Bilbao was the least impressive, it looks amateurish, it felt amateurish, overall I just didn’t get it http://www.bilbaoworlddesigncapital.com/
CapeTown: when I first read the list of cities I was a bit puzzled by the presence of this city, never really associated Cape Town to design. But after reading the application and the statement it made I got – the reason I think Cape Town was selected had to do with the down to earth and realistic approach. >.< DUTCH DESIGN WEEK:
Eye-candy everywhere in Amsterdam as The Dutch Design Week unfolded at the end of October, with so much interesting things going on that I guess it was hard to grasp it all. My favorite things was the way the carved up the city in areas for better exploration of both design and the urban environment. http://ddw.nl/content.php?pageID=2b8cfba77bc66a78488c3bdaae5d6bd6

Meanwhile Hong Kong is preparing to host an amazing event dedicated to design Business of Design Week is I believe one of the mega events of world design just because it gets some of the most inspiring together in a series of rooms and creates the perfect environment for inspiration. For me one of the high lights this year is the fabulos Dieter Rams
