why everyone should buy DoR & some industry protectionism
it really doesn’t matter why i like DoR magazine.
it doesn’t matter that they are local, authentic, extremely literate people who generate content in a city/country we think has nothing more to say.
it doesn’t matter that they organize and give us pulitzer-winning-keynote-speaker conferences about nonfictional narratives. that they educate the mainstream but also help bring up/discover and create the future generation of talented journalists that will most likely be working for them once they master their craft. (and that’s some hardcore commitment to society, where’s your csr now big brands?)
it doesn’t matter that they stay true to themselves and are not sellouts (we are watching you cristian lupsa). that they prefer the long and hard road of do-it-your-self rather than make the product more commercial.
it doesn’t matter that they are not there yet. that they need improvement, and that they know it. what matter is that they are ours, one hundred percent local home made organic. and they are young and they are willing.
buy DoR magazine now, buy every issue from now on. even if you don’t read it. even if you just look at the pics. even if you just throw it on your office desk to look cool and show support. buy DoR magazine because we want to let people who risk doing quality work that it is not in vain. buy it so others will have the courage to make other new and better magazines. if you want magazines like monocle and wired later, buy DoR now. buy it to let the community know that work has it’s payday. it’s not even about DoR, it’s about the industry. protect it.
DoR, you have my allegiance.

your overall point is generous: encouragement so that the rest feel the courage to do new and exciting stuff. but, as you very well know, production costs for a mag are sooo big and usually people buying the mag does not solve the monetary problem. solution here would be for advertising brands to adapt their story to the mag they want advertising in.
the problem for most mags out there is not neccessarily the poor quality of content, but the sometimes fucked up compromises they make for the sake of getting the advertising that pays the salaries a.s.o. that finally negatively influence the mag’s perception (and sometimes content too)
if we get to 10000 prints the production costs will be way better, and the cpt is much better for the advertisers :))
of course brands should do their part, but until then let’s prove them that we indorse a product they should actually advertise in for the right rate card.
f we get to 10000 prints the production costs will be way better, and the cpt is much better for the advertisers —> true. advertisers want as many people as possible to brainwash (hopefully for them :D). Ooops, did I just say that out loud? :P
nope, you said it in print, hahahaha :)
in online. which is virtual. and since is virtual (definition = that which is not real), it’s like i never said it. :D
